Symbolism
Official Ring / Symbolism / Tradition / Ordering
The tradition of having an official university ring has returned. Elements from past rings have been incoporated with new icons to create a ring design that symbolically captures the uniqueness of Iowa State University. Images of the Campanile, Lancelot and Elaine, and the green space of central campus create a striking ring.
1. Iowa State University of Science and Technology
We were founded in 1858 as the nation's first land-grant college . Being a land-grant college meant that we included everyone in our circle - men, women, the rich, and the poor.
2. The Campanile
The music of its chimes is a daily reminder of our past. The clock is about to strike midnight as a reminder of the ISU tradition of Campaniligh. The Campanile is surrounded by trees to remind you of the beauty of our campus.
3. Beardshear Hall and Curtiss Hall
These buildings are a testimony to the importance we place on education. How many times as a student did you climb the steps of Curtiss, Beardshear, or Alumni Hall? Don't forget those times. They are an important tradition.
