Employment Opportunities at the ISU Book Store
We have a variety of ongoing student employment opportunities at the ISU Book Store; all serving the campus and the community.
Once your application is submitted someone from the Book Store will be in contact with you within two weeks.
What is the starting wage?
The starting hourly wage for student employees at the ISU Book Store is $8.00 per hour. There are also several opportunities for growth within the Book Store.
How many hours per week would I be working?
Student employees are expected to work a minimum of 10-12 hours, Monday through Friday, with hours flexing up with rotating weekend shifts. University policy allows a maximum of 20 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during breaks and holidays.
How soon would I need to be available to start?
Our busy season begins a few weeks before classes start at Iowa State each semester. We accept applications year-round, however, preference will be given to those that apply prior to August 1st for the fall semester. You must be available to begin employment in early-mid August. New employees are required to attend an orientation session upon the start of employment.
I have tickets to all of the Football games, will I get those days off?
The ISU Book Store is the place to be on home football game Saturdays! Therefore, we will not accept requests for time off for football games. Your schedule may work out that you could go to some, but not all football (or other athletic event) games.
I go home every break (Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Break). Can I still work at the Book Store?
Every employee is expected to be available during breaks, -Fall, Winter, and Spring Break- with different needs in different departments. Being available over Summer Break is also preferred. Needed time off is negotiable with your supervisor.
Students and non-students are eligible to work as a seasonal employee during the back to school seasons in textbooks or cashiering. You must be available 1-2 weeks before the start of classes and 2-3 weeks after the start of classes. Please contact Tara Crain ([email protected]) if you are interested in working with us seasonally!
Early Bird Textbook Reservation Crew
Current ISU students (must be registered for classes) are eligible for employment with the Early Bird Textbook Reservation Crew. You must be available 2 weeks before the first day of class. Please contact Tara Crain ([email protected]) if you are interested in working with the Early Bird Crew!
State Fair Event Crew
Students and non-students are eligible to work with the State Fair Event Crew! You must be interviewed and hired by early August to be available for the new employee orientation and training. You must be available during the legendary Iowa State Fair and be able to work one of the following complete shift times: 7:15am-3:30pm, or 2:30pm-10:00pm. Please contact Rachel Faircloth ([email protected]) if you are interested in working at the State Fair!
